Cross the High Atlas Mountains on the legendary Road of the Kasbahs — one of Morocco's most dramatic overland routes, passing through landscapes so spectacular they have attracted some of Hollywood's greatest filmmakers. From Marrakech, your journey takes you over the 2,260-metre Tichka Pass, with vertiginous views of the High Atlas, before descending into the pre-Saharan south.
Your first major stop is the extraordinary Ait Benhaddou — a UNESCO World Heritage ksar (fortified village) that rises in tiers of honey-coloured mud-brick above the Ounila River. This is arguably Morocco's most photogenic site, featured in films including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy. Explore the labyrinthine alleys, climb to the ancient granary for panoramic views, and photograph the timeless architecture at every turn.
Continue to Ouarzazate — the "Hollywood of Africa" — where the Atlas Film Studios have produced some of the world's most epic cinema. The studio visit reveals the incredible sets and props from decades of production. Explore the Taourirt Kasbah, a magnificent 19th-century fortress of the Glaoui family that was once the most powerful private kasbah in Morocco.
Return through the dramatic Draa Valley or the Dades Gorge, where rose-red cliffs rise hundreds of metres on either side of the road. A full day that covers 300km of the most cinematic road in Africa.
