Experience the most ancient wellness ritual in Moroccan culture — a traditional hammam (steam bath) and spa treatment that has been practised in the cities of the Maghreb for over 1,000 years. Our authentic hammam experience takes you to a genuine neighbourhood hammam in the Marrakech medina, used by locals daily, not a tourist facility.
The Moroccan hammam ritual is a deeply therapeutic and culturally rich experience. It begins with a pre-soak in progressively hotter steam rooms that open the pores and relax the muscles. Then a hammam attendant performs the kessa (exfoliation) using the traditional kessa glove — a vigorous scrub that removes dead skin cells accumulated over weeks and leaves your skin extraordinarily smooth and glowing.
This is followed by a Moroccan black soap (beldi) cleanse — a natural soft soap made from fermented olives, eucalyptus oil, and Vitamin E, with powerful antibacterial and moisturising properties. The final treatment is a full-body argan oil massage — using the "liquid gold" of Morocco to nourish and hydrate the newly exfoliated skin.
The entire experience takes approximately 2 hours and leaves you feeling deeply relaxed, completely cleansed, and thoroughly Moroccan. Towels, robes, and all products are provided. The hammam is fully segregated for men and women. A post-hammam mint tea rounds off this extraordinary wellness journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
1
What is a traditional Moroccan hammam?
A hammam is a communal steam bath that has been central to Moroccan social and wellness culture for over 1,000 years. The ritual involves progressive steam rooms, a vigorous kessa exfoliation scrub, black soap cleanse, and often a massage. It is considered essential for physical and spiritual cleanliness in Moroccan culture.
2
Is the hammam experience suitable for tourists?
Yes, though we take you to a genuine neighbourhood hammam rather than a touristy facility. The experience is authentic and some attendants will guide you through the ritual. You don't need to speak Arabic — the process is intuitive and our guide explains each step beforehand.
3
What should I bring to the hammam?
Everything is provided: towels, hammam robe, flip-flops, and all treatment products. You should wear underwear or a swimsuit during the session. Remove all jewellery and avoid the hammam immediately after eating a large meal. Bring a change of clothes.
